Chelsea Youngster Completes Permanent Move Away From The Club

1 min read

Chelsea’s Academy graduate Dion Rankine has today completed a permanent move away from the club to join English League one side, Wigan Athletic.

Terms of the potential deal are unknown: Rankineโ€™s technically under contract for another year, so there could even be a nominal transfer fee (though Wigan were docked eight points this season for prior violations relating to finances and wages, so moneyโ€™s probably still a bit tight).

The 21-year-old right winger, who joined the Academy at the U14 level from Cambridge Unitedโ€™s setup, spent all of last season on loan at another third division team, Exeter City, starting 21 of his 33 appearances in League One.

Rankine recently told the Chelsea official website how much he enjoyed the challenge of that loan, giving him such a different experience from youth football, and how heโ€™s looking to kick on from there.
