Former Chelsea player and coach, Gianfranco Zola has reacted to Enzo Maresca’s decision to bench No.1 Robert Sanchez after his horrible form lately.

The Spanish goalkeeper was dropped from the starting XI for their Premier League clash against West Ham on Monday.

Chelsea fans had been calling for Robert Sanchez to be dropped for quite some time and they were finally granted their wish on Monday night when Enzo Maresca picked Filip Jorgensen instead.

The Denmark under-21 international was not totally convincing though, but made no big mistakes and couldn’t save Jarrod Bowen’s goal.

Meanwhile, Chelsea legend –Gianfranco Zola was impressed with the way Enzo Maresca reacted to Robert Sanchez recent poor form.

“He has been brave changing the goalkeeper. I think Maresca is making the decisions that need to be made. Things are going in the right direction” Zola says

“You can’t always play perfect football. Sometimes in games like this, in tough moments, you need to get somrething out of it and I think they will get a lot of confidence out of this.” He added…

Meanwhile, Chelsea moved two points above Manchester City and Newcastle in the race to qualify for next season’s Champions League via a top-four finish.

It was the first time they had taken three points in a home league game after trailing at half-time since 2013.

Chelsea’s second win in eight league matches was a welcome boost for Enzo Maresca after the Blues boss complained that the transfer window was distracting his players.
