Manchester United have reportedly put a deal in place for Diego Leon, with the 17-year-old set to officially make the move to the 20-time English champions at the end of the 2024-25 campaign
It’s been well-known for some time that United have been scouting left-backs to fill the whole that is routinely left by Luke Shaw’s persistent injuries.
However, the primary targets until now have been Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, Lecce’s Patrick Dorgu and AC Milan’s Theo Hernandez as a late entry.
However, seemingly come out of nowhere, Diego Leon has emerged as a key contender to join the club for the left-wing-back role in Amorim’s system.
The teenager has represented Cerro Porteno’s first team on 21 occasions, and he is regarded to be one of the best young talents in South America, with a number of clubs believed to be keen on his signature.
The speculation surrounding Leon and a potential move to Man United has intensified over the last few hours, and according to journalist Pedro Torres, a move has now been agreed.
Close reports claims that “the groundwork” is in place, with Leon set to move to Old Trafford in the summer of 2025.
Fellow journalist Roberto Rojas, meanwhile, has said that the transfer will cost in the region of £4.7m.
