FA Makes Final Decision On Enzo Fernandez After Racist Video – As Chelsea Issues Statement

1 min read

During Argentina’s celebrations of their Copa America triumph over Colombia, footage from Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez’s live Instagram broadcast captured the Argentine squad chanting the first part of a controversial song:

“On passport, French nationality, listen, spread the word, they play in France, but they are all…” before the recording is abruptly stopped with someone instructing to “cut the video”.

As a result of that the French Football Federation has taken legal action against Argentina following the emergence of a video showing their players singing a song with racist and transphobic lyrics.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have issued a statement following video footage of Enzo Fernandez and his Argentina team-mates singing an offensive song about France.

“Chelsea Football Club finds all forms of discriminatory behaviour completely unacceptable,” the statement reads. “We are proud to be a diverse, inclusive club where people from all cultures, communities and identities feel welcome.

“We acknowledge and appreciate our player’s public apology and will use this as an opportunity to educate. The Club has instigated an internal disciplinary procedure

The most surprising thing of the ongoing saga is that Chelsea players Malo Gusto, Malang Sarr, Axel Disassi, and Wesley Fofana unfollowed Enzo Fernandez after he posted a video on Instagram that showed him singing along to alleged racist chants with his Argentina teammates.

The Chelsea record signing will now be waiting for Chelsea’s final action ahead of the new 2024/25 season under new manager Enzo Maresca.
