Chelsea completed a number of deals in the summer transfer window but failed to sell every player they wanted to.
The Blues decided not to take some of their senior players on their pre-season tour of the USA, while others were removed from the first-team squad later after failing to impress new manager Enzo Maresca.
Deivid Washington
Deivid Washington’s deadline day saga sums up the craziness of Chelsea Football Club at the moment.
The Brazilian was meant to be joining Ligue 1 club Strasbourg – who have the same owners as the Blues – but negotiations broke down.
He was then linked to Hull City by Brazilian journalist Fred Caldeira but that also fell through at the last hour.
Carney Chukwuemeka
Carney Chukwuemeka only joined Chelsea last summer. He signed for £20 million from Aston Villa, similar to the Omari Kellyman deal in this window.
Many thought it was an odd move because he would not play regular football. However, the doubters were proved wrong at the start of last season when he enjoyed a run of games under Mauricio Pochettino.
The attacking midfielder even scored a great goal against West Ham but suffered an injury soon after and has not had the same impact ever since.
He was linked with Manchester United and AC Milan in the window but a move to either destination never materialised.
Cesare Casadei
It is fair to say that Cesare Casadei’s Chelsea career has been mismanaged. He spent the first half of last season on loan at Leicester City and performed fairly well.
He was recalled in January and joined up with Pochettino’s squad, only to play a few minutes here and there as a substitute.
This summer, it seemed likely that he would be sold or at least go on loan again. Yet, neither of those things happened and he will probably be a bit-part player again until January.
Angelo
Angelo’s situation is almost identical to Casadei’s. He will probably never be good enough for Chelsea’s first team so it would have made sense to sell him.
And, the Blues hierarchy clearly agreed with that sentiment because he was put up for sale two weeks ago.
Yet, they did not find a suitor for the Brazilian winger, whose only remaining option appears to be training with the academy.
