Chelsea Legend Gary Cahill admitted that he was not impressed with everything Chelsea did during their 4-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.
Chelsea looked really dangerous going forward, with Cole Palmer scoring all four of his side’s goals in the first half.
The former England captain stated that he wants Enzo Maresca to tell his players to stop playing out from the back. The Chelsea legend also wants Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler to do the same with his men.
Speaking on ESPN, the former defender said: “I have one [piece of] advice for the two coaches of these teams: stop playing from the back, guys! You don’t have the personnel for that.”
Gary Cahill is going to be left feeling a little bit disappointed if he is hoping for Maresca to change his football philosophy.
Gary Cahill has already warned everyone that Chelsea are going to concede more goals like the second one Sanchez let in on Saturday.
The Spanish Goalkeeper was trying to play out from the back, but a bad ball resulted in Brighton getting the opportunity to make the score 3-2 and taking it.
If Sanchez keeps making mistakes like that one, then it is going to hurt Chelsea. But the answer is not for Maresca to ditch what he believes in.
Filip Jorgensen could always come into the side, while there is the option of signing another goalkeeper next year if Sanchez proves to be unreliable.
For now, though, Maresca should stick with the Spaniard, who was actually pretty good in Chelsea’s games against West Ham United and Bournemouth prior to the Brighton encounter.
