Manchester United drew 3-3 to FC Porto in the second game of the Europa League campaign as Erik Ten Hag’s Future remains unsettled due to struggles this season.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire’s injury time header saved Manchester United’s blushes and potentially Erik ten Hag’s job as the Europa League clash with Porto ended in a thrilling 3-3 draw.
Four days after their 3-0 home humiliation at the hands of Tottenham, the Red Devils put criticism of the players and their under-fire manager to the side with an impressive start in Portugal.
The Dutchman will be grateful to the towering centre-back after coming to the rescue in what always looked to be the toughest assignment in the new-look Europa League.
In an interview with Footyvalid, Erik Ten Hag Appreciates Harry Maguire by saying…
“His Injury Affected Us Alot, Great To Have Him Back, He’ll be an important player for us” Erik Ten Hag Says
But the manner of the performance in Porto does little to help Ten Hag ahead of Sunday’s Premier League trip to Aston Villa and the October international break.
It was a crazy end to a match that had started so brilliantly from a United perspective.
The Red devils had more possession with 53 percent of the ball, despite being reduced to 10 men late on. They also completed 434 passes with an accuracy of 89 percent.
In contrast, the hosts had 47 percent possession, completing 354 passes with an accuracy of 84 percent.
Manchester United also landed 29 shots in total, with eight being on target (xG of 1.38).
However, their structure never looked convincing – a factor that Porto took full advantage of. The latter landed 14 shots in total, with seven being on target, garnering a higher xG of 2.29
