Manchester United have confirmed the signing of defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal.

Man United confirmed on their official website that “Heaven has signed a contract until June 2029, with the option of an additional year, and he will immediately join United’s first-team squad.”

United’s technical director Jason Wilcox praised Heaven as an “extremely talented defender”.

He said: “We are delighted that Ayden has joined Manchester United. He is already an extremely talented defender who is ready to join our first-team squad in order to maximise his development.”

The 18-year-old made his debut for Arsenal this season.

His contract with the Gunners was due to expire at the end of the current season.

The Athletic revealed that the two clubs have agreed a compensation package in the region of £1.5 million.

He is the second highly-rated former Arsenal teenager, after forward Chido Obi-Martin, to join United in the last 12 months.

Eintracht Frankfurt and Barcelona were interested in signing Heaven but the Red Devils have won the transfer battle.

Heaven was initially expected to be part of the youth teams at United but Wilcox’s comments suggest he will be directly drafted into the first-team squad.
