Sir Alex Ferguson States Four Things Erik Ten Hag Did Wrong Against Spurs

2 min read

Erik ten Hag has been dealing with considerable pressure, and while some might expect him to unwind with a glass of wine after matches, he’s had to forgo this tradition.

The practice, once championed by Sir Alex Ferguson, who enjoyed sharing a glass with the opposition manager after a game, has been sidelined due to media scrutiny.

This evening the Red Devils unsurprisingly lost 3-0 to Tottenham at Old Trafford and this disappointing result has got United’s Legendary coach Sir Alex Ferguson blow hot on the teams performance.

Sir Alex Ferguson, while speaking to Footyvalid reporters after the game at Old Trafford, he stated that Erik Ten Hag made a couple of tactical mistakes that costed United the game.

First of all, Alex Ferguson stated that Diogo Dalot needs a rest, the Portuguese fullback has been one of United’s best and most consistent performers this season, but it all went wrong for the Portuguese full-back against Tottenham.

He was caught completely out of position for the opener and struggled in possession with far too many sloppy passes.

Then secondly, he stated that only Manuel Ugarte cannot solve everything in the team.

For the first time this season, Ten Hag was able to field what many would deem to be United’s first-choice midfield.

Manuel Ugarte made his first Premier League start alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes, and the Uruguayan ended the first half with a 100 percent passing accuracy.

The problem was that too many players around him were playing poorly and Ugarte cannot be expected to cover for everyone.

If anyone thought the systemic problems in midfield would be solved by United’s £42m summer signing, they can think again.

Lastly, Sir Alex Ferguson stated that United’s captain Bruno Fernandes needs to be dropped.

Bruno Fernandes has struggled this season. He has been at the centre of everything good about Manchester United in recent years, but his recent form has been worrying.

Some Manchester United fans called for Fernandes to be dropped against Tottenham, but Ten Hag kept faith in his captain and named him in the starting lineup.
