Erik ten Hag has been warned by Manchester United’s Hierarchy that Sir Jim Ratcliffe will “consider” replacing him with Ruud van Nistelrooy if Manchester United “stutter at the start of the season”.
Sir Ratcliffe has taken full control of football operations after purchasing a minority stake in the club and decided to stick with Ten Hag as manager after a drawn out end-of-season review.
Ten Hag has since agreed a one-year contract extension and there has been a revamp of his coaching staff.
The dutchman spent most of last season looking likely to be dismissed by the Red Devils.
Erik Ten Hag’s squad encountered the worst Premier League campaign in history, finishing eighth, losing 14 of 38 league games.
Moreover, he was handed a new contract at the club after winning the FA Cup and was backed up with some exciting first team signings this summer.
The Red Devils are now into the new season but they’ve yet again shown zero improvement in their first two games of the season.
Though a lucky 1-0 win against Fulham and a 2-1 loss to Brighton might probably make Erik Ten to be under fire again.
Meanwhile, Erik ten Hag blamed his side’s defending for a 2-1 defeat to Brighton on Saturday after Joao Pedro headed in a 95th minute winner.
