UEFA Issues Final Judgment on Man United’s European Competition Fate Following INEOS Dual Club Ownership

2 min read

The Red Devils have been eagerly awaiting UEFA’s decision on their eligibility to participate in the next European competitions after concerns arose over INEOS owning two clubs in these competitions.

Ahead of the new season, United’s acquisition by the INEOS group put them in a difficult position regarding the clubs they can conduct business with and their fate in certain competitions.

One of the challenges United now faces is that they cannot sign players from Nice, another club owned by the INEOS group. The current agreement stipulates that between July 2024 and September 2025, United will not be allowed to sign players from Nice.

Manchester United secured a spot in the Europa League for next season by defeating local rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, claiming their second trophy under Erik ten Hag.

The club has now been cleared to participate in the Europa League next season. Manchester City will also be allowed to compete in the UEFA Champions League, despite concerns over City Football Group’s ownership of Girona.

Reports indicate that measures have been taken to restrict investors from influencing the decision-making processes of the clubs involved.

Commenting on UEFA’s decision, the INEOS group stated, “We are pleased with the positive decision from the First Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body, which will see Manchester United play in the Europa League next season. The focus for Manchester United is on the season ahead and performance on the pitch.”
