Rio Ferdinand Sends Cole Palmer Warning To Gareth Southgate

2 min read

Former Manchester United and England’s Captain, Rio Ferdinand has giving his honest opinion on Chelsea’s Cole Palmer after Southgate’s snub against Serbia.

Rio felt that the Three Lions were missing the โ€˜swagger and arroganceโ€™ of Chelsea star Cole Palmer in their lucky 1-0 win over Serbia.

Gareth Southgateโ€™s side put in a mixed display in their opening game of Euro 2024 after they were put under severe pressure by their opponents after Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham had headed the Three Lions in front just before the quarter-hour mark.

A lack of control and composure led to Serbia enjoying the better of the second-half exchanges as England wasted possession on several occasions, much to the frustration of former Manchester United defender Ferdinand.

โ€œYouโ€™d like to sit there and say the game needed a bit more control. So where were the players that can do that. Kobbie Mainoo maybe? Yes, if need be.

But someone like Cole Palmer, who has that kind of swagger and arrogance to say give me the ball.

The way Tadic came on for the Serbs. He came on and he was like give me the ball, Iโ€™ll be an outlet for you guys.โ€ Ferdinand Says….

England next face Denmark, who drew 1-1 with Slovenia earlier in the day, on Thursday evening and Southgate believes his team will have benefitted from a tough opening assignment against Serbia, who had long spells with the ball after the break.

And Gareth Southgate believes England will benefit from being made to โ€˜sufferโ€™ against Serbia in their Euro 2024 opener to build confidence throughout the Tournament.
